Finding the Song
It is difficult to explain what I am speaking of – if one is not a writer of metered
poetry or musical lyrics. There are many times when I write… that the “meter”
(musical beat if you will) sings to me. It is very much like singing a song along with
a singer at a concert, on TV or while listening to the radio. You “feel” the beat,
your body sways with the music or you simply tap your foot. You can close your
eyes and absorb all that is around you and smile.
This is what I mean when I remark to someone that their poem – sings! The
poetic
musical quality
carries the reader along in a very easy and natural state. It helps
the mind not only in understanding, but the flow of the read, the style and quality of
the read – there is music in the words. It simply brings to the reader a greater
moment in poetry.
Such is one of the great loves of mine when a write occurs that melds together
these magical moments, when nothing is forced – it just flows from within. All of us
have encountered and experienced such moments when we write. It is a beautiful
time no matter the subject – be it darkness or happiness we write about.
I just wanted to share with my friends what it is I feel when I write in this manner or
am fortunate to read such a well constructed piece that it causes me to read in this
manner. So if I say, –  "it sings!" – there is no higher compliment I can pay to the
author. For me… there is no greater pleasure when the singing comes from within.
