Reflections on a Gentle Day
Reflections on a Gentle Day

We cast out in our orange boat
you in your peach frock, me in white
sliding along silken water shimmers
of a golden flecked azure amid onyx
and green reflections of a gentle day

The noon train to Anjou greeted
bathers, with its steamy reprise
to break the silence of fish whisperings
and the dip slush of my black bladed oar
stirring the surface of underwater mystery

Jean-Phillipe waved from his sailboat as
Ange-Aimee and Robert called greetings
from the shore in front of the boathouse.
We spoke, in soft voices, of last night's
fete to celebrate your engagement

My sister, how I cherish those moments
that Sunday afternoon in our orange boat,
our last trip together in innocent sisterly love
upon a cool lightly wind moved water
brush stroked in moiré silk memories
